Beachcomber: One Shot Whenever

0005

Heroes move in the dark. The first face we see has something biblical about it — obviously not the man from the previous shot, and this one seems to be floating, almost in utero. His backward movement is punctuated by a rope being pulled, as the frame opens and tilts upward. Diegetic lighting makes it feel as though we're sitting in a dark theater just as the movie begins. We expect an over-the-shoulder shot, but instead we recognise someone familiar, held in a measured medium close-up. His eyes keep moving in the dark, probably scanning the area, but he’s as still as a rock.
