Beachcomber: One Shot Whenever

0034

In the last scene of The Searchers, the doorway marks the frontier between two worlds that will never unite, and John Wayne leaves the one he desires but knows he will never belong to, for one full of dangers that is nonetheless his routine. Here we are, standing on the other side of the door — the cowboy rides his horse and, by appearances, is again leaving the blurry world of men he tamed after finding the girl. He seems to have already made up his mind, but we're still in the early days of the film. Is this how life goes? Do we lead it with our minds already programmed? This fake horizon line (artificial, heightened, interrupted, and twisted) might give us a cue.
