Our man is a man of promise, so here are the waves visualized just earlier. We can’t really hear anything — not because of the wind or the engine's sound, but because we're mesmerized by the sea foam – we try to see faces, shapes, patterns on this agitated mass, while we try to keep our heads above the water. It shouldn't be a coincidence that this is the first time we hear the film’s title. Similarly to “beachcombers [who] are here to forget they are at sea,” we are here to forget what we’ve seen so far. We’re gleaning regardless, navigating and trying to listen or make meaning. Noise has the same root as nausea, hence the question and the VHS effect; anything naval stems from naus, the Greek word for ship, even if it sounds like navel. Even if this is navel-gazing, it's still a trip.
