Strange – we’ve seen this head before. It nearly blocked our view of the cowboy-turned-sailor earlier, but now it’s here to evoke the sensation of listening to his story of redemption. Medusa’s hair frames Moma Lisa’s smile, impossible to decipher. A serpent escapes from the hair and takes the shape of a snake chain choking this woman’s neck – a sign there must be more poisonous creatures nesting inside. The Christ Child evades the frame, and we are left longing for a truly original sin.
